Dog-Friendly Apple Picking Near NYC

Now that Fall is finally here, who is excited for all the Fall activities you can do with your dog? We are! We decided to go apple picking. This was Gatsby's first time apple picking so I was very excited to experience this with him. Dog-friendly apple picking locations are not hard to find. Here's a few listed below that are not too far from NYC so you can experience this with your dog:

  • Hurds Family Farm - Pick your own apples and have lunch at their farm to table cafe, or take a hike on one of their nature trails.

  • Wright’s Farm - They have 453 acres producing 100,000 bushels of apples annually. They grow other produce too, like peaches, berries, cherries, and more.

  • Apple Dave’s Orchards - There’s a lake, a nature walking trail, an herb garden and wagon rides.

  • Barton Orchards - Pick-your-own apples, fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, beans and squash. There’s a petting zoo, corn maze and a tap room where you can drink local craft beers, hard ciders and wine. For those of you who want to socialize your dogs, there's even a dog park! There’s a separate play area for large and small dogs, watering stations, shade areas, and benches.

Our choice was Hurds Family Farm in Hudson Valley, NY. They have all different types of apples, pumpkins and our favorite - winter Christmas trees! For those of you with kids, they have outdoor activities including a hayride, huge slide, kids corral, and nature trails. We explored the nature trails where we saw many other families with their dogs. My favorite was passing by the wildflowers and snapping a photo of Gatsby as a bee! How cute?!

We made our way through the apple orchards. During this whole time, Gatsby wanted to eat every single apple he saw on the floor! As a puppy just a little over one year old, he was full of excitement and pretty much dragged me around the whole place! How can I blame him? It was all new smells and apples were laying around everywhere for him to eat. Finally, we found our favorite type of apples and picked up a bunch of Fuji, Rome Beauties, and the flavorful Ruby Frost. We also stopped by their Dutch Barn Market to buy some apple cider donuts, apple sauce and apple butter.

I hope you all get a chance to go apple picking this season with your pup. We had a great time watching Gatsby roam through the apple orchards (minus him dragging me around like a mad-man) and we look forward to visiting many other locations next season!

Till next time! ♥

-Elaine
